why does creating social media pillars feel so hard?? 😫

Okay, listen… I KNOW how intimidating it is to decide what your content pillars will be. How do you boil down all that your brand is to three-ish topics? Here’s what I did to break it down:

  1. I looked at our mission statement. In my case, it was “building community through local food.” With that as a guiding light, I broke it down into ✨building community✨ and ✨local food✨. Those are now my pillars: community events, local food spotlights, and fresh specials. It can be that simple. Don’t have a mission statement to work with?

  2. Look at the programs your brand offers. Hit us with those! Tell us about your programs and how they benefit the clients you deserve. People want to know how your brand will make their life better. Say you’re a fashion blogger - maybe a “program” you run or a way you benefit your audience is showing your OOTD. Give the dolls some fashion inspo; that’s so slay!

  3. Think about the clients your brand serves. Let’s pretend you own a doggy daycare. Yes, tell me about your company’s service but also SHOW ME THE DOG PICS!! Hairstylists, show me how cut your clients’ hair looks! Gen Z podcasters, show me the memes that you are talking about in your podcasts!! I am following these accounts becuase I care about dogs, and how my hair will look when you’re done, and the very niche memes I’m gunna laugh about when I listen to your podcast.

In all of these scenarios, it is okay to try something and it not feel right. If it doesn’t feel right, you can always change it! We’re not doing brain surgery, and the stakes are a little bit lower. We got into social media to have fun & be creative! Throw paint at the wall! It’s okay to realize it’s not working for you & change it. Just repeat the steps from above, and eventually, you’ll find what works best for you and your brand.
