why spilling f1 tea is fun

My favorite part of my TikTok account is “Spilling the F1 Tea.” It’s a segment where I tell my audience about controversial moments in Formula One history. I loooooove it because it’s such a silly thing. The “tea” is so inconsequential at this point, but it’s still so fun to spill!!

I was also that girl who loved history class because I did the readings and then I would get to retell the story like it was the juiciest piece of gossip of all time. I saw this Reel about the ven diagram of people who love gossip and people who love history class is a circle — I could not agree more!

To be very truthful, I did not genuinely care about Formula One until I watched Drive to Survive on Netflix. I knew Lewis Hamilton was an incredible athlete (also so hot) and I also watched Top Gear as a kiddo, but I didn’t really know anything about the sport itself. All that changed with one tweet.

It’s the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. (I didn’t watch it) I see on Twitter that Trevor Noah (South African bae) has tweeted about the injustice that’s happened to Lewis Hamilton (sports bae). I click into the Twitter drama because I’m nosy. I get a targeted ad for Drive to Survive. I ignore it. I get on Netflix the next day…the trailer for Drive to Survive starts automatically playing. The tea looks enticing 👀. I click on it. My life changes.

I LOVED DRIVE TO SURVIVE BECAUSE IT’S REALITY TV. It’s grown men being children to each other (team principles) and these adorable little dude chasing their dreams! It’s so engaging, and I loved it.

I say loved cause my feelings have changed on it a little bit since becoming a person who watches F1 in real-time, but that’s a whole ‘nother post.

Anyway, now I am fully a Formula One fan girl. I look up old F1 documentaries. I know the Driver’s World Champions from 2023-1996. I am sooooo interested in old school, Formula 1 tea. Again, the stakes are low. The incident already happened. The people getting in trouble have already gotten in trouble.

I get the rush of gossiping, of chisme, but without the harmful effects.

Spilling F1 tea is so fun. Also, my friends do not care about Formula One. BUT they do love tea. So it’s a fun way to bring them into something I care about in a way that is engaging to them.

So if you want to get your friends into Formula One, might I suggest “spilling the tea?” It’s fun. It’s harmless. It’s a good ole time!

Sound off: what’s your favorite historical F1 controversy??
